On 4 June 2024, Andrea Nava, Luciana Pedrazzini, and Emanuela Tenca will present the Italy ELT Archive at a workshop of Italian Studies at Oxford (ISO), an interdisciplinary network of scholars working on Italy at the University of Oxford. The workshop, organised by Guido Bonsaver (University of Oxford) and Alessandro Carlucci (University of Bergen), is the first of a series of events to be helt at ISO, and it will take place both in person (SCR Parlour, Pembroke College, University of Oxford) and online, starting at 4:30pm (BST).
The other speakers at the workshop are Monica Barni (Rome Sapienza), Francesca Branciari (Siena Stranieri), Giovanni Iamartino (Milan Statale and Convenor of HoLLT.net), and Peter Langdale (former North London Collegiate School, Webmanager of Teach Italian).
This series of workshops at ISO provides a forum to discuss the history of Italian language teaching in the UK and of English language teaching in Italy, and more in general the knowledge and use of English in Italy and Italian in the UK. The aim is to promote an interdisciplinary dialogue between researchers in the field of second language learning and teaching, as well as in English and Italian Studies. This series will also allow the creation of a comprehensive diachronic dataset including quantitative data on students, teachers, courses, degrees, along with data on methodologies, learners’ motivations and competence levels, from the late nineteenth century to the present. The focus of the workshop series is primarily historical, but it is based on the assumption that knowledge of the modern history of language learning and teaching can support all stakeholders to address the current challenges characterising foreign language learning both in the UK and in Italy.
