The Istituto Italiano Edizione Atlas was founded in Bergamo in 1949. At the beginning of its activities, the house published a variety of genres, but soon it started to focus on school textbooks, first for primary school (until 2009) and then for lower and upper secondary school. In the 1990s, the publisher was well established and produced successfull titles by renowned authors such as Gillo Dorfles and Angela Vettese for history of art, and Giorgio Bàrberi Squarotti for Italian literature, to name just a few.
The publisher was acquired by Zanichelli in 2016, and it still publishes school textbooks, also in digital form.
