Short description
This is a 2-book bundle: Book 1 (chapters 1-7) targets learners in the first two years of upper secondary school, while Book 2 (chapters 8-24) those in the last three years. As stated in the foreword, the books can also be used as reference works for independent study.
Book 1 begins with three introductory “schede” (worksheets) with information about pronunciation, word and sentence stress, intonation, syllable division rules, the alphabet, capitalisation, punctuation, and numbers. They also include exercises about phonetics, spelling, and dictation recorded on an audiocassette.
The grammar structures presented in the chapters are explained by showing differences and similarities between English and Italian. The English examples are translated into Italian, while the explanations and the instructions to the exercises are given in Italian.
At the end of each chapter a few pages titled “Note e particolarità” (Notes and peculiarities, Book 1) and “Particolarità” (Book 2) (Peculiarities) focus on specific language functions (e.g. asking for information, making an agreement), areas of meaning (e.g. travelling, playing), and linking words.
The Appendices, which are collected in a separate booklet, include the tape scripts and provide additional information and exercises about false friends, irregular verbs, and word formation.
