Short description
The book is divided into three macro-sections. The first one, which is divided into 10 Steps, is based on an “oral approach”, as claimed by the Authors in the foreword. Each Step begins with a dialogue followed by exercises (e.g. true or false, open questions); then, the communicative functions represented in the dialogue itself are explained in the section titled Everyday communication. The communicative functions covered in the 10 Steps are summed up in the section Revision and texts, which also includes tables for reviewing the grammar structures covered inductively up to that point.
The second macro-section is instead divided into 22 Units aiming at making Italian learners more independent, as stated in the foreword. Like the Steps, the Units include a dialogue with comprehension exercises, followed by notes about communicative functions; however, the Units are enriched by further exercises about the linguistic structures used in the dialogue, and they integrate reading passages and activities for practising writing skills (writing letters, summarising, completing open dialogues). Additionally, the linguistic structures are presented systematically in the Grammar notes, and they are practised by means of dedicated exercises.
The third macro-section consists of an appendix for additional oral-practice based on drills, a glossary, and a table with irregular verbs.
