Maria Cecilia Rizzardi was professor of English Language and Teaching English as a Foreign Language at the former Faculty of Humanities at the University of Milan. She is the author of several academic works about foreign language teaching, such as the books Insegnare la lingua straniera. Apprendimento e ricerca (La Nuova Italia, Firenze, 1997) and Programmare e insegnare la lingua straniera nella scuola di base (Utet, Torino, 2000).
