Short biography
Together with his wife, Brita, John Haycraft founded the International House World Organisation in 1953, when they opened their first school in Cordoba, Spain. Their aim was to improve the quality of English language education around the world by offering practical training courses to English language teachers.
John Haycraft also wrote a number of books about his cultural experiences and encounters while travelling in Europe, such as Babel in Spain (Hamish Hamilton, London 1958), Italian Labyrinth (Penguin, London, 1987), and In search of the French Revolution (Secker & Warburg, London, 1989).
